First Grade students at The Henderson International School continue building on the successful foundation of our Kindergarten program. Our educators continue working on building confidence and competence in the core subject areas, as well as in the enrichment classes. In addition to academics, First Graders at The Henderson International School are guided in learning to become responsible members of their classrooms, and are given ample opportunities to practice interacting with other students and adults in our school community.

The academic program in First Grade continues to develop student skills in core subjects, as well as enrichment classes. Emphasis on continuing development of Reading and Math skills is a vital part of the daily curriculum. In addition to the education opportunities during the school day, Students in the First Grade and higher have a wide variety of after-school programs to choose from, ranging from Choir to Chess to Science Club. These voluntary programs are a rewarding and integral part of many students' experiences at The Henderson International School, and provide meaningful connections with their peers beyond the classroom.

While our First Grade educators continue the tradition of excellence in instruction for all subjects, having all First Grade students reading independently by the end of the school year is their greatest achievement. As students leave First grade, they are avid readers, choosing their own books and reading them without outside assistance.
