Fourth Grade is the final year at The Henderson International
School's elementary school level. By this point, students are preparing for
life in Middle school, and much is expected of them. They continue to strive
for success, and are moving into higher levels of competency in all academic
areas.
To accomplish the goal of graduating Fourth Graders who are thoroughly prepared
for life in Middle School and beyond, Fourth Grade students have a demanding
curriculum to follow. Throughout the course of the school year they will
complete several research projects on a variety of topics. They will become
adept at using computers as both a means of communication and as a source of
information. They will read several novels in depth, and will begin learning
how to critically analyze them.
At The Henderson International School, our students are beginning to gain true
independence in Fourth Grade; independence from their parents, and from their
teachers. As they become increasingly aware of the larger social world into
which they are moving, a great deal of emphasis is placed on being responsible
for their actions and towards their peers. As they struggle to find their place
as young adolescents, they are instructed not only in the core subjects, but in
the methods for general success as academics. Students begin for the first time
to see more than one instructor for the core subjects, and they are taught to
efficiently manage their own work.
