Diwali, also known as Deepavali, is an ancient festival celebrated every Autumn in India and the surrounding regions in South Asia. This week, it will be celebrated on Oct. 19 in most of the regions in India and Oct. 18 in South India. The interfaith festival, which is celebrated with beautiful decorations, clothing, foods, fireworks, gifts and rituals, is celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains around the world. Diwali has both legendary and religious significance for those who celebrate it, even though the legends and religions are widely varied throughout the region.

The northeast point on our Academic Compass is Personalized Learning. One of the ways we focus on fulfilling this promise is through our Personalized Learning Plans (PLPs). These plans are both a document and a process. The document is different for each student, while the process tends to be more consistent, engaging the student, parents and teacher(s). As students mature we expect a deeper level of thinking from the student to set and achieve goals.
