We're totally digging our gardening clubs

March 06, 2017

Our Early Childhood classes have been learning about the natural world through science experiments, nature walks, and of course, gardening! Each class planted different seeds that have now begun to sprout. There is basil, oregano, chives, thyme, and tomatoes! We were even fortunate to be gifted some red onion to experiment with to try to grow. All of these ingredients will be harvested when ready by our EC students for a special lesson about from where foods come. At that time, we will have a guest come to cook all of the ingredients into a pizza for our students. From seed to stomach, the Early Childhood students will have a yummy experience straight from the greenhouse!

Mrs. Patzik's middle school science club (or as this author calls it "salad club") is growing all the makings of a fresh garden salad this spring. The club is growing lettuce, cauliflower, spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, and peas. So far, the lettuce has taken off, and we're hoping the other veggies catch up quickly!

Mrs. Cadena is also spreading the garden fever to middle school students. She is introducing a garden club that will take Pinterest by storm! Mrs. Cadena has some really cool projects in the works, including some recycled art, windchimes, stepping stones and lots of other fun garden activities.

More to come as our crops pop up!
