After School Programs

Dear HIS families,

One of our guiding principles is Student-Centric Focus, aiming to have the most positive impact on our student’s achievements.  In all we do at HIS we want to provide the best experience to enhance your child’s school life. This coming school year we are introducing a partnership with Skyhawks for our After School Club program.  For nearly forty years Skyhawks has been one of the largest program providers of its kind in the United States. We are pleased that they are able to bring their expertise to HIS. This new program will provide time for study, homework and fun learning as well as sports instruction, games and activities.  Instruction will be appropriately age-based for all ages of our school, from preschool through middle school, led by certified instructors.

In addition to the study time and learning, this will serve as a great opportunity for your student to engage in physical activity while learning new skills, regardless of current skill level.  The Skyhawks after-school experience is another positive way for our students to gain further understanding of core social/emotional lessons such as responsibility, respect, leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork.

As in the past, programming will be arranged by age groups for the best experience of each student.  There will be early childhood, elementary, and a middle school age groups, each with their own instructors and leaders.  New this year will be an opportunity for middle school students to choose to either participate in the Skyhawks program activities or be part of the Instructor Assistant program.  The Instructor Assistant program, while being part of the overall after-school program and costs, is a unique chance to begin developing leadership skills and could be considered for community service recognition as well (and training for CIT in our Summit Ridge Day Camp!)

The Skyhawks program will run daily, while school is in session, and will run until 6pm each day. Registration and payment will be handled directly with Skyhawks. Please visit their website for more information to discover more about the program, register your student and to make payments;

Students who have already registered for our After School Club, as promoted at the end of the last school year, will automatically transfer to Skyhawks, no further action is needed from you.

Our specialized classes; Leap 4 Fun Karate and Cheer, Wacky Science with Mr. Lee, and Arts and Crafts with Mrs. Cadena will continue to be available for students interested in these opportunities.  These activities will be separate from the Skyhawks program, and will be only for a portion of the after-school hours, and will have separate costs. Please see the Front Desk for registration forms for these particular classes - space is limited. If your student is attending one of these specialized classes, and wishes to join Skyhawks afterwards, this is ok too! Please see the Skyhawks website for further information.

Please also note that this year, when picking up your student from Skyhawks or a specialized class, you will need to sign them out from Henderson Hall. To help make the sign out procedure a little easier for everyone, please remember to bring along a form of photo ID and don’t forget to phone ahead if you are running a little late. Only individuals who are authorized contacts may pick up students.

The telephone number to contact, if you have any questions or need to reach your student after school is 702.818.2100.

It is our commitment continuously to build positive learning experiences and seek the very best for your student and your family.  We hope you will be as excited as we are about Skyhawks joining the HIS family.

Looking forward to a great 2018-2019 year!
