CIT Program

A new CIT must be entering 8th, 9th or 10th grade and never participated in our C.I.T. program previously.  If you have been an SRDC camper, please make sure you indicate that.

All new candidates for the 2020 C.I.T. Program will be required to attend a Group Informational Meeting (date TBD) before being accepted into the program.

The cost for the 2020 CIT Program is $75 a week.

The Counselor in Training (C.I.T.) program at Summit Ridge Day Camp  provides a wonderful opportunity for young adults to further develop their leadership and communication skills, as well as gain experience in supervising, planning, and instructing activities for young children.

Counselors-In-Training are an important part of our camp staff. Each C.I.T. will be assigned to a group or a camp specialist each camp week they particpate in the program.  The C.I.T. will  become an integral part of our camp community and a leader in his/her group or activity.  The program is a combination of training, apprenticeship, and teen socialization that includes working with other C.I.T.s and experienced counselors under the direction of our C.I.T Director Lauren Vogel Freedman.

The 2020 CIT Program will allow particpants to:

  • Gain valuable experience interacting with school-age children
  • Participate in weekly group meetings with C.I.T. Coordinator to discuss topics like leadership & responsibility
  • Take fun day trips to socialize with other C.I.Ts off campus
  • Develop new skills such as creative thinking, effective communication and conflict resolution
  • Explore future career possibilities
  • Gain teamwork experience
  • Receive 2 C.I.T. camp t-shirts
  • Make new friends and life long memories
  • Receive community service hours for school
  • Be mentored by Lauren Vogel Freedman, M, Ed  Behavior Specialist and Certified Life Coach
  • Free pizza lunch every Friday!

Responsible young adults entering 8th, 9th, and 10th grade that are interested in making a positive impact on children are ideal candidates for our C.I.T. program.

Applicants must complete an interest form and participate with a parent or guardian in a C.I.T. Informational Meeting where our C.I.T. Coordinator will answer questions and review with parents the expectations of the summer.

This program is selective and will fill up.  We are asking for a minimum commitment of 2 consecutive weeks.

All CITs must be available for the all day CIT training (TBD).
