Mini Chefs At HIS!

May 22, 2017

Cooking in the Early Childhood years is a great way to promote Development and Learning in young students.  Cooking is not only a fun, engaging activity for children, but one that has been used for years as an important teaching and development tool for all ages. Did you know? ...

*Hands-on cooking activities help children develop pride and confidence in their skills and abilities. The act of following a recipe can encourage self-direction and independence, while also teaching children to follow directions and use thinking skills to problem solve.

*Chopping, squeezing, spreading, and mixing are all cooking skills that help develop a child’s small muscle control and eye-hand coordination.

*Cooking inspires children’s curiosity, thinking, and problem solving, offering new opportunities to make predictions and observations. It is also a “real life” experience that can be tied to growing our own vegetables and herbs in our greenhouse, to visiting a “real life” commercial kitchen.

*Cooking also offers its own vocabulary, and it is a great opportunity for language development.

Our students had a memorable experience making their own mini pizzas today, learning about the pizza ingredients, learning about the culinary profession, and visiting the largest kitchen they’ve ever seen. We hope to continue these experiences for our young learners next year.
