We are excited to announce that Monday, Dec 11 marks the start of Henderson International School’s first STEAM Week, which will run from Dec. 11 - 15.  This event was organized by our faculty members on the Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) Professional Learning Community (PLC).  Each member of the PLC will be hosting a STEAM event during the week, and boy do they have quite a lineup!

STEAM Week was created to offer students yet another platform to engage their skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and creating and collaborating with others, through a variety of STEAM activities, all while making meaningful connections to real-world problems.

Here’s an example in the "Quakes and Towers" challenge:

“You are an engineer in the real world that was asked to build earthquake-resistant buildings. The design should be at least a two-story building near a known fault line and thus is resistant to damage by earthquakes. Create a prototype structure that could survive an earthquake lasting at least two minutes." - Mrs. Bassa, Middle School Science Teacher

STEAM education and events like these are ultimately teaching students how to utilize their Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math knowledge and skills to solve the problems of tomorrow. Attached you will find our STEAM Week schedule of events.  You will notice that we have something for everyone, from preschool - 8th grade!  I can’t wait to see what these bright young minds come up with in some of these exciting challenges.

Here’s to a stimulating week!
