Up, Up and Away

March 30, 2017

On a windy day, kites fly through the sky.  What makes kites go up, up, and away?

That’s what Early Childhood talked about this week in the Learning Commons.

The story “Stuck”, by Oliver Jeffries, features a kite that gets stuck in a tree amongst other items. After reading the silly story, the students watched a paper kite fall to the floor and learned that gravity brings everything down. But LIFT is the force that moves things upward. The students got to experience this first hand in our MakersLab. Using simple materials, the students made their own paper bag kites and then they experienced how wind and lift work together. They tested their kites indoors and outdoors.
